Suntech’s Superior Project Review II
We arrived in Tamil nadu, India
Dating back to August 2015, Suntech announced to the world that ‘We will carry out further close cooperation with Adani Power Ltd., which is one of the largest private independent power producers in India and Suntech will supply 222.5MW modules for Adani Power’s solar projects.’ As we all know that Suntech was purchased by Shunfeng company in March 2014 but returned to the first-class PV module suppliers quickly within one year after the acquisition while the signing of this crucial project in 2015 was the recognition of Suntech’s product quality and project capability by Indian customers.
The Adani power project, located in the southern Indian state of Tamil nadu, put into operation in 2016 with over 700MW project unit was the world’s largest solar power station at that time interviewed specially by National Geography magazine. Suntech took part in the power station construction as a major module supplier for this project which used 72 high-performance solar cell modules of Suntech Vem series, generating 330GWh of electricity each year and had provided green electricity to tens of thousands of homes in Tamil nadu. According to statistics, this project is equivalent to a reduction of 491,300 tons of coal, 1,261,400 tons of carbon dioxide, 36,800 tons of sulfur dioxide and 18,100 tons of nitrogen oxide, amounting to planting 72207 trees! It was just the efforts that contributed by Suntech modules for clean energy industry with such amazing data.
It is well-known that India has year-round high temperatures. This project was built along the sea, only about 20km away from the coast, so the environment factors have a great impact on the power generation of PV modules. However, the generation capacity of Suntech modules in Adani power project remains stable three years late with its performance ranking first among all supplied modules. It could be seen that Suntech modules still have reliable performance in the tropical monsoon climate with high temperature and humidity throughout the year, which is the perfect presentation of Suntech’s pursuit of quality over the years. Top executives of Adani Power Ltd. also had made many visits to Suntech’s PV testing center and module factory, and the spirits of Suntech’s continuous commitment to high-performance and high-power products had won high recognition of Adani Power Ltd. ‘Adani is one of the top five comprehensive large group in India with its industries relating to every field like resources, logistics, agriculture and energy and Adani began to step into clean energy business at the end of 2014 with their first project of 5 million silicon adopting Suntech modules and the cooperation between Suntech and Adani never ends since then. Adani purchase nearly100MW modules from Suntech every year after more than 200MW order of 2015 and the recognition of Suntech by Adani provide a strong brand endorsement for our follow-up development of Indian market.’ claimed Jason in pride, the sales manager in charge of contacting Adani Power Ltd.
India is a country with extremely unbalanced power supply and demand and the power supply has been in short in recent years with comparatively severe situation. According to related government department calculating, at present there are still about 300 million people among nearly 1.3 billion population of India that couldn’t use electricity normally, covering 23% more or less of the total. In January 2014, the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi announced the solar revitalization plan: that is by 2022 India will achieve a total of 175GW of renewable energy power generation, including 100GW of solar installing capacity, 40GW of solar rooftop power generation project and 60GW of large and medium-sized solar power grid project with a total investment of about 800-1000 billion yuan. India has already been the world’s fifth largest PV cumulative installing market and the second largest new installing market with expectations of the installing capacity of renewable energy in India increasing by 15.86GW in 2019.
Suntech is one of the module companies first entering the Indian market owning lots of excellent cases and delivers continuously green power to local residents by Suntech modules in Daman, Karnataka, Mondra and other regions of India. Suntech, together with India, standing at the forefront of the energy revolution with confidence and passion for the energy future believes that PV will be the electricity way of changing the future world, for the sun creates everything and technology changes the future. Suntech will also work with Indian local developers to enter the overseas market. Since Adani has projects under construction in Australia, America, North Africa and other regions, Suntech will repay this sincere trust with more stable and reliable products.
